The second of the Ten Commandments reads, “You shall not make for yourself an idol… You shall not… worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me…” (Exodus 20:4-6).
The sin of idolatry was so great it affected not just individuals, but whole families, for generations. When we minister to the sick, we often find an illness or addiction that’s a been family problem for years.
It’s also well-known that Freemasons make vows that curse their children, who may suffer from head or brain problems, or illnesses ‘under the apron’. Freemasonry is idolatry.
The Good News
But friends, that is Old Testament! Why not grab your Bible and turn to Jeremiah 31?
“The time is coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah (verse 31). Verse 34 adds, “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”
Now skip back to verse 29. “In those days people will no longer say, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’”. The New Covenant breaks the generational curse.
Jesus paid for our sins by his blood—the blood of the New Covenant. And by calling this covenant ‘new,’ he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and aging will soon disappear. (Hebrews 8:13).

If we choose to live under the Law, we can expect trouble down for our grandchildren and even great-grandchildren.
But when we surrender to Christ, we sign up to the New Covenant in his blood. If you are a believer but still suffering from the sins of your fathers, the devil has overstepped his authority. Command him to leave! He must.
Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
